When investors worry that governments will inflate away their debts, that central-bank independence is under political pressure, or that deficits have simply grown too large to unwind, they reach for assets no central bank can print. The forecasts now diverge in a way that captures the whole debate. J.P. Morgan sees prices averaging around $6,000 an ounce by the final quarter of 2026 and pushing toward $6,300 in 2027 (momentum, in their view, still has room to run). Others are cooling: in June 2026, Goldman Sachs trimmed its year-end target from $5,400 to $4,900, citing fading ETF inflows and a tougher rate outlook.
